Who has to collect it?

If you sell into Alaska from another state, you generally must register and collect once your activity there reaches $100,000 in sales. If your business is based in Alaska, you already need to be registered.

What to do, step by step

1. Check what applies to your business

There is no state sales tax to register for, but other taxes and licenses can apply. Ask the Alaska Department of Revenue, Tax Division what your business needs.

2. Check local sales taxes

Many cities and boroughs charge their own sales tax. Check the rate and the filing rules with the local government where you sell.

3. Keep good records

Keep your invoices and sales records. They support your income tax return and any other filing.
